Bucs' Mike Williams looks to top off career year

29

December

Third-year receiver Mike Williams needs 69 yards on Sunday to record his first 1,000-yard season. Williams also is poised to set a career high in yards per catch, entering the game with 16.3 yards per reception – sixth among starting receivers.

He’s quietly put together a very impressive season for a No. 2 receiver, but Williams maintains his deference to Vincent Jackson, whom he credits for his much of the success.

“With that guy on the field, you have to get at least 900 yards on the other side,” Williams said.

Williams also scored eight touchdowns a year after he scored just three times during a sophomore slump.

“That’s one thing I wanted to do was get back in the end zone,” he said. “I think I could have gotten back in there a lot more this year and helped us win, but it was a lot better than I did last year.”

The arrow seems to be pointing up with Williams, who was more sure-handed this season and certainly more productive than he was in 2011.
