Bucs minicamp under way in Bradenton

The long promised Bucs “minicamp” is finally under way here at the IMG Academies in Bradenton, where the team has an impressive turnout of more than 50 players.

Players organized this three-day event to remain sharp in the wake of the three-months long NFL lockout that prohibits players from having contact with coaches or using team facilities. IMG, with its three pristine football field and staff of instructors that include former FSU and NFL quarterback Chris Weinke, filled the gap for Tampa Bay’s players.

A number of player who haven’t attended the smaller workouts in Tampa are in attendance today. They include a handful of rookies, including first-round pick Adrian Clayborn and third-round pick Mason Foster.

Also attending is cornerback Aqib Talib, who is still fighting a charge of assault with a deadly weapon in Dallas County, Texas.

A large group of offensive and defensive linemen are attending, which wasn’t expected. Free-agent offensive linemen Davin Joseph and Jeremy Trueblood are here, as is defensive tackle Gerald McCoy, who looked to have recovered from the torn biceps that ended his 2010 season.

An afternoon workout is planned in addition to this morning’s, with twice-per-day workouts scheduled the next two days, too.
