Bucs to practice at MacDill
Military personnel and their families can get an up-close look at the Tampa Bay Buccaneers when the team practices Aug. 16 on MacDill Air Force Base. Kick-off is at 10 a.m. at the soccer field near the MacDill Fitness Center.
Some 300 fans showed up at MacDill last year to watch the Bucs run through about 45 minutes of drills, according to an article in the MacDill Thunderbolt. Afterward, spectators got to shake players' hands and ask for autographs.
The cheerleaders and coaches -- including Jon Gruden -- were there, too.
The event has become an annual tradition, although not necessarily one that brings good luck.
The Bucs lost to the Jacksonville Jaguars 31-19 the day after the MacDill practice last year. In 2006, the Miami Dolphins beat the Bucs 13-10 the next day.
This year, the Bucs play the New England Patriots the day after the MacDill practice.
