Bucs QB coach Turner named head coach at FIU
Bucs quarterbacks coach Ron Turner has been named the head football coach at Florida International University.
Turner, 59, served only one season under Bucs coach Greg Schiano, who now has two openings on his coaching staff. Receivers coach P.J. Fleck was named head coach at Western Michigan.
Turner was the Big Ten coach of the year with Illinoi after going 10-2 in 2001. His last full season in college football was in 2004 when he was fired by the Fighting Illini after going 3-8. Since then, Turner has had two stints as offensive coordinator with the Chicago Bears and has worked for the Colts and Bucs.
Former Arizona Cardinals assistant John McNulty, who has coached quarterbacks and receivers, would seem to be a candidate for some position on the Bucs staff. McNulty spent several seasons at Rutgers under Schiano, who was denied permission by the Cardinals to interview him last season.
FIU reportedly was interested in hiring Butch Davis, the Bucs assistant to the head coach, but an agreement was never reached.
