Bucs rookie Ahmad Black in a race against time
Bucs fifth-round pick Ahmad Black, a safety from Florida, has missed the past two preseason games and a couple weeks of practice because of a high ankle sprain, and might be running out of time to convince coaches he belongs on the roster.
With the team expected to keep the requisite four safeties on the 53-man roster, Black faces an uphill climb. Asked today whether it's imperative that Black play in the final preseason game, on Thursday at Washington, coach Raheem Morris didn't paint a rosy picture for Black.
"I know he’s going to try to go this week," Morris said. "But it’d be hard right now for him to go out there and do some things, especially with the way Larry Asante’s playing, and Corey Lynch. Those guys played their butts off this preseason, not to mention our starters. It’ll be tough. You’d like to see him out there."
Is Morris saying it'll be tough for Black to make the team? That's not entirely clear, but it certainly sounds that way.
