Bucs rookies report today, but no Mark Barron
The Bucs' rookie class gets a head start on the rest of the roster when it reports today, eight days ahead of veteran players, who arrive for training camp on July 26.
The rookies won't actually be practicing, but they can work with coaches and hold meetings, as well as continue the NFL acclimation process.
But here's the thing everyone really wants to know: Where's first-round pick Mark Barron? Not at One Buc Place. The seventh overall choice from Alabama remains unsigned and did not report this morning when rookies arrived and began meetings.
The good news: that could change soon. With this morning's news that Redskins quarterback Robert Griffith III signed his four-year deal, it wouldn't be surprising to see a flurry of signings for the picks that remain unsigned. Most of the unsigned players are the top picks; Griffith is the first player in top eight selections to sign his deal.
Barron's absence isn't as problematic because he isn't missing full-squad activities. But that doesn't mean his coaches don't want him there in a perfect world. Still, the deadline that matters most is next week's full-squad reporting date.
Look for Barron to be signed well before that point.
