Bucs' running back picture becoming clearer
Although many of you were looking for a splashy move (we warned you not to), the Bucs stayed within their building and promoted practice squad running back Mossis Madu to the active roster today.
That rounds out the running back lineup, with LeGarrette Blount expected to return for the Saints game after the bye.
Here's how you should expect things to break down moving forward. Blount will obviously be the starter, getting the majority of the carries. Look for Kregg Lumpkin to become the third-down back, responsible for playing in obvious passing situations. Blount could assume some of these reps, too, with Earnest Graham out for the season. And expect Madu to have a very limited role, playing mostly on special teams and providing depth at tailback.
That's pretty much all there is to it. The Bucs don't want to make changes involving players unfamiliar with their scheme if they can avoid, so they're not going to. The fact that they didn't even conduct workouts with any of the free-agent running backs should tell you they're just not interested.
