Bucs' Schiano anticipates no issues with Price, Barron

Bucs coach Greg Schiano, after conducting a workout of the team’s rookies this morning at One Buc Place, said he excepts all players to be accounted for at the start of training camp next week, including defensive tackle Brian Price, who was absent for the latter part of the offseason program.

Schiano was asked about a report in June that Price punched first-round pick Mark Barron during a confrontation in a meeting room. The coach didn’t deny it happened, though he declined to comment specifically.

Price, after physical and emotional issues related to stress from the death of his sister in May, returned home to California and, according to his agent, was working out there with the blessing of the organization even while teammates completed a mandatory minicamp in Tampa.

Price’s lingering issues, coupled with the reported fight, raised questions, but Schiano doesn’t anticipate issues.

“I hope not,” he said. “We all make mistakes. Be men about it and let’s go. Ultimately, everything we do has one goal, and that’s to bring that trophy back here. We have to put our own personal preferences and whatever disagreements we have aside to do what’s best for the club.”

Regarding player attendance for the start of camp next Thursday (rookies reported on Wednesday), Schiano has high hopes.

“From all my accounts, everybody’s going to be here,” he said.

The one exception he noted was defensive end Da’Quan Bowers, who suffered a ruptured Achilles tendon in the offseason and won’t play until late this season – if at all.

Barron missed another day of rookie work today because his contract remains unsigned. The seventh overall choice from Alabama is expected to start at strong safety and could benefit greatly from this week’s workouts and meeting, but there’s no sense of panic from the team as the sides are believed to be close to a deal.

''He’s missed some repetitions, especially for a rookie we’re counting on,” Schiano said. “But I’m hoping that he’ll be here soon. That’s my hope.”
