Bucs training camp update: Holmes injured, kickers perfect, McCown shines
Defensive end Louis Holmes injured his left ankle early in practice Saturday and was carted off the field. We'll update his condition after the morning workout
Place-kickers Matt Bryant and Mike Nugent were each perfect on all five field goal attempts during a special teams period.
Luke McCown took command of the quarterback derby Saturday morning. Taking the first reps with the No. 1 offense, McCown was near perfect in 7-on-7 and 11-on-11 drills, including a 25-yard floater to WR Brian Clark over CB Aqib Talib. Byron Leftwich got off to a slow start. He lost a fumble, was victimized by some dropped passes and intercepted by CB Elbert Mack. But he did make a terrific throw to Antonio Bryant on a deep ball over CB Kyle Arrington.
RB Cadillac Williams made a successful return from the left torn patellar tendon injury he suffered in the final game of 2008 against Oakland. "I was talking to my mom and told her, "I'm probably the only guy looking forward to practicing in pads.''
UPDATE: Holmes was wearing a protective boot on his left ankle during the workout Saturday night at RJS and not able to practice. His status is day-to-day.
