Bucs will work out place-kickers Coutu and Andrus after Nugent misses
Mike Nugent's future with the Bucs could be in jeopardy
After watching Nugent miss two more field goals in Sunday's 16-13 loss, coach Raheem Morris said the team has invited free agent kickers to work out for the team.
Morris would not identify the kickers Monday, but the Times confirmed they are former Seattle Seahawks' place-kicker Brandon Coutu and former Colts kicker Shane Andrus.
Coutu spent the 2008 season on the Seahawks' 53-man roster with Olindo Mare but never attempted a field goal in the regular season. He lost the job this year to Mare in training camp.
Andrus signed as an undrafted free agent with the Colts in 2006. He spent the preseason with Indianapolis and kicked off in the first regular season game before being released.
"We've got kickers coming in today to work out,'' Morris said. "If got an opportunity to get better, then you try to. If you don't, then you don't.''
Nugent missed his first four field attempts this season before connecting on attempts of 37- and 22-yards Sunday.
"Kickers are not my real expertise, '' Morris said. "But we missed them. The only thing that really matters about a kicker is the result. When you go out there, you either make it or you miss it.
"The operation went good. The snap went good. It was down in time and we missed the two field goals. It was a windy day, and again, I'm not going to sit here and make any excuses for anybody. Their kicker made kicks in the wind, ours has to make kicks in the wind. Mike's aware of that. He's got to go out and make kicks.''
