Bucs wrap up first rookie minicamp workout

30

April

The first of three rookie minicamp practices is in the books here at One Buc Place, where Bucs rookies and a whole lot of roster hopefuls were put through a nearly two-hour practice.

First-round pick Gerald McCoy will steal the headlines, as will second-round pick Brian Price.

But the rookie who probably had the best showing was receiver Mike Williams, the team's fourth-round pick.
The team has argued he has first-round talent but dropped because of character questions, and he did nothing to cast doubt on their statements.

Williams caught a deep slant over the middle, leaping above two defenders to make the grab. He caught another deep ball down the sideline, showing his speed and quickness.

Given the rocky first practice -- players just got their playbooks on Thursday night and had very little preparation for today -- Williams was a bright spot on a day filled with inevitable miscues. Williams would leave the field with trainers late in practice, but team officials later said he had what was described as simply a calf cramp.

"He flashed today," coach Raheem Morris said. "There’s no doubt about that. Going across the middle and snatching the ball out of the air. He’s big. He’s fast. He did a nice job of finishing. He caught a couple of little short passes and took them all the way to the end zone."
