Dallas Clark, Bucs close to a deal

The Bucs are close to signing veteran tight end Dallas Clark even as they’re holding out hope of trading Kellen Winslow.

Winslow said today he has been told by coach Greg Schiano that the team plans to trade him. Clark, meanwhile, worked out with the Bucs last week and reportedly impressed the staff.

Clark, a fixture in the Peyton Manning-led Colts offense for the past nine seasons, was released by Indianapolis as part of a purge of the team's veterans this offseason.

He's 32 and has dealt with a number of injuries in the past two seasons, but Clark is nothing if not productive.

Clark caught 34 passes for 352 yards last season as he battled injuries and the Colts struggled to cope with the loss of Manning, who was out with a neck injury. But as recently as 2009, Clark had a career year, with 100 catches for 1,106 yards -- both career bests.
