Did Ronde Barber just play his last home game?
Lost in disappointment of the Bucs' confounding fifth consecutive loss on Sunday is the possibility that Tampa Bay icon Ronde Barber might have played his last game at Raymond James Stadium.
But Barber, in his 16th season, wasn't about to get nostalgic because, he says, no decision has been made about his possible retirement.
Asked by reporters whether there was any emotion when leaving the field after the game, the 37-year-old Barber feigned ignorance.
“A lot of ya’ll were trying to take pictures of me,” he said. “I don’t know why.”
The decision hasn’t and won’t be made for quite some time, Barber said. Earlier this year, Barber didn’t agree to his current one-year contract until March. He and general manager Mark Dominik agreed to deal with Barber's status on a year-to-year basis at this point, meaning the sides will have to work out a contract if Barber is asked to return.
“I won’t even entertain those notions yet,” Barber said. “That’s for me to do in the offseason. Week 16 of the season is no retrospective for me.”
