Doug Williams interviews for Southern University head coaching job



Doug Williams is considering a return to college coaching.

Williams, the Bucs director of pro personnel, interviewed for the head coaching job at Southern University Saturday.

The former Bucs and Redskins quarterback succeeded Eddie Robinson as coach at Grambling State from 1998-03, going 52-18 and winning three straight conference titles from 2000-02.

Southern, which is located in Baton Rouge, La., is a rival of Grambling State in the Southwestern Athletic Conference..

No decision has been made and Williams may speak with Southern University officials again this week.

Williams' contract with the Bucs expires in February. The Bucs have expressed an interest in giving Williams an extension but he has informed them of his desire to at least explore some options, including a return to the sideline.

Williams interviewed with Southern Univerisity officials in Baton Rouge, :La. on Saturday. He attended the Bucs-Saints game in New Orleans Sunday.
