Two veteran teammates spoke a few minutes ago in the locker room about Mike Williams' overnight arrest, neither choosing to make excuses for Williams' putting himself in a bad situation.

Center Jeff Faine, one of the team's prominent leaders, said, "What happened, I don’t know. But from what I understand, they don’t even know if he broke the law. So it’s a tough situation for him to have to deal with what he’s dealing with. But obviously, there’s better choices to make during the week of a game.

"But he made the decision and he’s a younger guy who is his own man. Hopefully, it’s a lesson learned."

Tight end John Gilmore said: "He’s a smart guy and he just found himself in an awkward situation. There’s really no excuse. I’m not making any excuses for Mike. But he found himself in a unique situation that right now he’s probably kicking himself in the butt for."
