Falcons' Roddy White looking forward to rematch with Bucs' Aqib Talib
Falcons receiver Roddy White wasn't himself in this season's first meeting with the Bucs, in part because he suffered a knee injury early in the game.
But White wasn't himself in another respect, too.
Matched up for most of the game with Bucs cornerback Aqib Talib, White had his least impactful performance of the season as the Falcons went on to edge the Bucs in the Georgia Dome on Nov. 7. White finished with four catches for 49 yards -- both season lows. Now, with Sunday's rematch on tap, White is looking to bounce back.
"In our first matchup, I felt (Talib) won that one," White said in a conference call with Tampa Bay media today. "He got the best of it. Besides me getting hurt, I just had like (49) yards or whatever, so he kind of kept me quiet throughout the game. I think he did a good job and this is Round 2."
White entered the game coming off a 201-yard performance against the Bengals. He followed it four days later in a Thursday night game against the Ravens with a 138-yard outing.
He's looking to get back to numbers like those this Sunday in Tampa. But White admits he'll have to do it in spite of Talib's blanket coverage. Talib is tied for second in the NFL with six interceptions.
"It's great competition, especially when he’s their best player," White said. "He’s their best player right now on defense and you get yourself geared up and ready to go for competition like that."
