Freeman out, says Johnson will 'do awesome.'
Quarterback Josh Freeman's streak of 36 starts will end today.
Freeman confirmed via text to the Times that he will not play today against the Carolina Panthers today. Backup Josh Johnson will make his first start since 2009, when he went 0-4.
Freeman was limited in practice this week due to a sore right throwing shoulder he suffered in the Bucs' 23-17 loss to the Tennessee Titans. He was injured after dropping a snap on a fourth-and-1 quarterback sneak.
The Bucs had said Freeman's status would be determined prior the game today, presumably after attempting to throw.
But Freeman said he was uncertain whether he would work out prior to the game.
"I just got to the stadium,'' Freeman said in a text. "Not sure what we're doing this morning as far as throwing. Josh is going to do awesome!"
