Have the Bucs seen the last of Davin Joseph?

December

It's much too early to predict what's going to happen months from now -- especially given the uncertainty surrounding the NFL's labor agreement -- but it's not out of the question to wonder whether Davin Joseph has played his last game as a Buccaneer.

Joseph, who was placed on injured reserve on Tuesday with a broken foot, becomes a free agent at the end of the league year. As one of the Bucs' best linemen, it can be assumed he would draw significant interest on the open market if the Bucs opt not to do a contract extension in the next couple of months.

That's why it cannot be assumed Joseph will be back.

Also, the fact that the Bucs haven't taken steps to lock up Joseph at any point in the past couple of years could also suggest they are going to consider other options, too. Joseph is part of an offensive line that has come together and shown great improvement this season, a unit that could potentially continue to grow together for years to come. But there will be some decisions to be made with Joseph, Jeremy Trueblood and  James Lee all playing on expiring contracts.

Again, it's too early to know. But the possibility needs to be considered that Joseph, the team's 2006 first-round pick, might not be in a Bucs uniform at this time next year.
