How the Dolphins' developments affect Bucs' coaching search
It seems the Dolphins are moving closer to naming a head coach, with numerous reports indicating they have narrowed their list of candidates to three and are conducting follow-up interviews with that trio this week.
What does this have to do with the Bucs?
Well, there is some overlap between the candidates for both teams. If recent reporting is to be believed, Bengals defensive coordinator Mike Zimmer -- who interviewed with Tampa Bay earlier this week -- has been eliminated from contention in Miami. However, Packers offensive coordinator Joe Philbin -- who the Bucs have received permission to interview -- reportedly is among the finalists.
A Miami Herald report says Denver defensive coordinator Mike McCoy has withdrawn his name from consideration in the Raiders' head-coaching search because he believes he is the Dolphins' frontrunner. That remains to be seen. Either way, the developments to our south could clarify whether the Bucs still have competition for any of the eight candidates they are believed to be considering.
The way it's shaping up, it looks like the Bucs could still have their choice of candidates -- whenever they finally get around to making a decision.
