Injured Bucs QB Josh Freeman still not throwing

Bucs quarterback Josh Freeman hopes attempt some throws in today's practice at One Buc Place, but the starter tempered expectations for his injured right shoulder.

Freeman, speaking with reporters this morning, said, "I’m feeling better than last week for sure. I had a good week last week, getting to rest it. This week we’ve been hitting the rehab pretty hard, trying to get it back to 100 percent."

But Freeman still hasn't attempted anything beyond the light tossing he did late last week, when the Bucs were attempting to determine whether he could play against Carolina. Freeman missed last Sunday's game against the Panthers but no decision has been made about this weekend's game at Jacksonville. The decision process will remain a slow one.

"I’ve warmed it up, done a lot of things," Freeman said. "But, really, we’re just trying to conserve it and see where it is. I plan to warm it up and throw a little bit this afternoon just to see where we’re at. Ultimately, the goal is to play on Sunday.

"It’s continually gotten better. It started out extremely painful, just standing around. But my movement has greatly increased. I’ve thrown the ball a few times. It’s just day to day gotten better. If we can continue on this pace – I really hope we can – I’ll play this Sunday."

Freeman expanded a bit on what happened when he sustained the injury against the Titans two weeks ago.

"I just fell awkwardly on it," he said. "I landed kind of right on my elbow and (his arm) kind of jolted back into the (shoulder) socket I guess. It’s just bruised all around. I don’t think there’s anything too serious on the MRI. It’s really just taking it day to day."
