Injured center Jeff Faine will attempt to practice
Bucs center Jeff Faine is getting closer to a return to the lineup.
Faine said today he will take the field with his teammates and attempt to practice when the team's workout gets underway in a little while. Faine has missed the past three games with a quadriceps strain.
"I’m going to get out there today and see how it feels and kind of test it out a little," he said.
In his absence, Faine said the line has performed at a high level, even the backups who have played only sparingly. With Faine and starting right tackle Jeremy Trueblood both missing last Sunday, the Bucs still had one of their better offensive-line performances of the season.
"I’m wondering if I should pat them on the back or tell them that’s what we expect," Faine said of the backups. ". . . I’ve seen James Lee’s progression through his career since he’s been here, and he’s just gotten better and better. I think he’s a guy who will challenge for a starting spot at some point in his career and not a guy who is just going to be a perennial backup.
"And (Ted) Larsen is at a very young point in his career and he’s doing a fantastic job. And I think he’ll just keep getting better too."
