Injury to Bucs' Michael Bennett impacted Frank Okam decision
The Bucs didn't offer any rationale for today's decision to release defensive tackle Frank Okam and pick up Eagles practice squad defensive end Daniel Te'o-Nesheim.
But we've since learned that today's roster moves were impacted by an undisclosed injury to starting left defensive Michael Bennett, who the team fears might miss time in the coming weeks. Bennett had been coping with a groin injury last week and, in accordance with league rules, was listed on the injury report. Still, he managed to be in the starting lineup against Green Bay. It's not clear whether this latest injury concern is related to the groin injury or a new injury.
Rookie end Da'Quan Bowers did play a larger role in Sunday's game against the Packers, but he said afterward he thought that to be a result of a coaches' decision to keep Bennett rested. If Bennett indeed misses time, Bowers presumably would be promoted to the starting lineup.
The Bucs, who play at Tennessee on Sunday, will release the week's first injury report on Wednesday afternoon.
