Josh Freeman's broken thumb improving

Quarterback Josh Freeman said today his broken thumb is getting closer to being completely healed, and he doesn't anticipate the current discomfort to be a season-long issue.

"It's continued to improve," Freeman said. "Obviously, it’s a little sore every now and then. But at the same time, it’s definitely healing. In talking to the trainers, by the time we get done with the bye week, it should be completely fine."

The Bucs play Carolina this weekend, followed by Pittsburgh on Sept. 26. Then the Bucs are off for a week before returning to action on Oct. 10 at Cincinnati. That will give Freeman adequate time to rest his hand and let it heal completely.

Freeman played through his injury on Sunday against the Browns and it did have some impact on his functionality in the game.

"It was a little bit of a factor, but having the opportunity to really go out throughout the week and identify my limitations, I was pretty comfortable with what throws I could make and what throws I couldn't," he said. "It held up pretty well."

Pretty soon, though, it seems he won't have any issues at all.
