Keep an eye on Briscoe in today's game
The Bucs haven't yet revealed who will start at receiver opposite Mike Williams today in place of injured Arrelious Benn, but don't discount the possibility that rookie Dezmon Briscoe could either start the game or play extensively today.
Coach Raheem Morris counted Briscoe among the players in competition to start today's game here in New Orleans, but whether he starts or not, he appears to have a place in the rotation.
Briscoe was promoted from the practice squad a few weeks ago not because the Bucs needed another receiver but because he was having such an obvious impact on the practice field.
"We got him on our practice squad, got him acclimated with the system," Morris said. "He's done a great job while he's been here and really forced the hand of (promoting him). We just kind of put up more receivers than needed. And now he's in a position to play and he's gone out there and stepped into that role without blinking."
Briscoe, a sixth-round pick of the Bengals this season, was told by Morris when he was acquired that he would likely have an important role at some point.
"Eventually, it was the plan, but I didn't know when," he said. "So, I had to stay prepared so whenever I was called up I would know what to do."
We'll find out soon whether today is the day.
