Kerry Collins still out as Colts prepare for Bucs
Colts coach Jim Caldwell, in his teleconference with Tampa Bay media this morning, said Indianapolis quarterback Kerry Collins will not practice today and -- at the moment -- Curtis Painter is preparing to face the Bucs on Monday night.
Caldwell didn't rule out Collins, who suffered an apparent concussion against the Steelers on Sunday.
"Right now Kerry is still recovering," Caldwell said. "He will not practice today. If Kerry can’t go, then Curtis obviously will play for us. Obviously, he played a little bit last week and I think he’s the kind of guy who will respond very well. Curtis is a tough-minded guy who has ability."
The Bucs have very little to call upon in their effort to prepare for Painter. He's played extensively in the preseason, but in the regular season, he made just three appearances in more than two seasons on the Colts' roster.
"I don’t know much about him," Bucs cornerback Ronde Barber said. "I have to go back to preseason film to watch him. I saw the couple of snaps he got last week against Pittsburgh. We’ll find out what he’s about (from) studying film this week. Whichever quarterback we get, we’ll have to prepare for him.
"(Painter) is green somewhat, but the offense is still the Colts’ offense. They still run the same plays. I just don’t want him to get hot against us."
