The latest: Bucs in the mix for Carl Nicks, scheduled to visit One Buc Place

We already told you the Bucs are closing in on what they hope is a signed contract with top receiver free agent Vincent Jackson. Now, it seems the Bucs are also setting their sights on the top available offensive lineman.

The Bucs are are trying to lure Saints free agent guard Carl Nicks, and have scheduled a visit with him in the next several days. The move suggests the Bucs are attempting to make good on their vow to surround quarterback Josh Freeman with elite talent. While the Eagles are also reportedly attempting to arrange a visit with Nicks, his stop in Tampa is the only he currently has scheduled, the Tampa Bay Times has learned.

Nicks was engaged Monday night in some last-minute contract negotiations with the Saints, but the 4 p.m. start of the new league year came and went without the sides coming to terms. Nicks will command a contract that likely exceeds $8 million per year.
