Lineup changes for Buccaneers at LB, QB as kickoff approaches
The first two surprises of the day have come before kickoff here at Raymond James Stadium.
First, at linebacker, second-year player Geno Hayes will not be in the starting lineup despite coach Raheem Morris saying so last week. Little-known Matt McCoy steps into the starting lineup for some unknown reason. Team officials, however, say it is not a result of an injury.
We'll work to get answers this and address the subject later.
Elsewhere, the quarterback lineup is eye-opening, to say the least. Veteran Byron Leftwich will be the starter, but second-year backup Josh Johnson is listed No. 2 while rookie first-round pick Josh Freeman is the inactive third (emergency) QB.
This also is in direct contradiction to what Morris said just last week, when he said after Luke McCown's trade to Jacksonville that Freeman would see more growth this year because the team was making him the immediate backup to Leftwich.
I'll be back shortly with my live blog from this afternoon's game.
