Live updates from Bucs-Dolphins
Though we won't be doing the formal live blog that we do during the regular season, I will be here throughout tonight's game to offer some live analysis and observations.
Stay here and I'll share what I can between my efforts to put out tomorrow's sports section for the newspaper. Just keeping hitting refresh periodically.
6:42: My south Florida media colleagues are telling me that Miami's Brandon Marshall is going to play quite a bit tonight. Perhaps that's bad news for the likes of Elbert Mack and E.J. Biggers, who will carry the load for much of the first half in Aqib Talib's absence. Then again, it'll be a good chance to measure their growth against arguably the best receiver in the NFL.
7:00: You probably knew this, but Jeremy Zuttah is starting at left guard. That could obviously change next week, but for now, that's the deal.
7:05: A quick downpour has rolled in. It's coming down pretty hard here. Fans heading for the concourses. Gonna be sloppy, even for the preseason.
7:16: Did you see that pre-snap shift on first and 10? That had Gruden written all over it. Seen if before. That's another indication that there definitely is some Gruden in Olson's offense.
7:22: Bye bye Barber... Ronde takes a seat after one series. Can't say I blame them. He's the team's oldest player.
7:27: Interesting that Cadillac is still in after the first offensive series. Always makes people nervous, especially on a wet, messy field. Just saying.
7:35: A couple things... Mike Williams beats Vontae Davis on that 30-yard gain, a guy who was a first round pick and a guy the Bucs nearly drafted themselves. Nice use of the body by Williams to not allow Davis to get the advantage back there. Also, Freeman showing the pocket presence we came to know last season. He makes nice decisions when he has time.
7:38: Someone might wanna tell Elbert Mack it's okay to play within 10 yards of Brandon Marshall.
7:45: Maurice Stovall has an ankle injury and will not return. Duh on the wiill not return part. I do not know how serious it is.
7:47: Reggie Brown is in the game. . . I didn't envision his first play being a tackle.
7:50: Notice the Bucs are playing Sean Jones and Sabby Piscitelli together. Sabby owes me an interview. Been avoiding me since camp started. He said he'd talk after he strapped it on, which is tonight obviously.
7:53: Biggers looking like the real deal. Outplaying Elbert Mack. Meanwhile, Myron Lewis is nowhere.
7:55: This might be a little bit of a conspiracy but the Bucs have been using Jeremy Zuttah as the backup center because I think that's ultimately what they expect he'll be.
8:01: I don't know how good the Bucs feel about this second offensive line, but I wouldn't feel good at all. Now you see why the Bucs didn't want to play Freeman ne the starting line left the game.
8:20: E.J. Biggers. Need I say more? And notice that he was lined up in the slot there rushing off the edge like another Tampa Bay cornerback I've seen before. Hmmm...
8:55: Michael Bennett has been in the backfield several times tonight. Another good pressure after a sack earlier. I really liked what I saw of him last year and thought he had the potential to be something. I'd keep an eye on him this preseason.
9:45: Been crazy busy here in the press box meeting newspaper deadlines. Heading to the locker room to do some interviews, including Huggins and Biggers. Will be back with some meaty tidbits later.
