Martin named NFC Offensive Player of the Week

The accolades - and attention - continue to come for Bucs rookie running back Doug Martin, who was named NFC Offensive Player of the Week Wednesday.

Martin, the first-round pick out of Boise State, racked up a club-record 251 yards rushing against the Raiders Sunday, the 10th most in league history. Since then, Martin has been a hot commodity with the national media, as he went on ESPN's Mike & Mike in the Morning Tuesday, chatted with Sports Illustrated's Peter King Wednesday, and is scheduled to tape an interview for ESPN's Sunday Countdown later this week.

"It was an incredible performance," Chargers coach Norv Turner said on a conference call with Tampa Bay media. "When you couple it with the performance he had the week before at Minnesota, you start looking at it and saying well, this is who the guy is. There's been some guys who had one game, but he's done it back to back, and he's showing signs of doing it like that in a lot of the games. Everyone has their own style, but he's got that thing that some of the great running backs I've been around had - the size, they're compact, they get in behind the offensive line, are hard to find, breaks a lot of tackles, and he's fast. It's an awfully good combination."

Turner was asked about the comparision being made of Martin to Hall of Famer Emmitt Smith.

"I don't like doing that to a guy, because every guy has their own style," Turner said. "But there's no question there are things he does that are Emmitt-like."
