Maurice Stovall out against Chiefs; Sean Jones to start
Receiver Maurice Stovall's ankle injury will keep him out of the lineup Saturday night against the Kansas City Chiefs, coach Raheem Morris said.
Stovall injured his ankle against the Dolphins on Saturday and had to leave the game in what is another disappointing injury setback for the fifth-year Buccaneer. Stovall has been beset by injuries throughout his career, and the timing on this one is most unfortunate as Stovall is fighting for a starting job and/or increased playing time. However, Morris indicated Stovall's absence should not last beyond this week, meaning he will possibly have a chance to have a say in this competition.
Morris didn't specify who would start in Stovall's place, but Sammie Stroughter is a reasonable guess. Reggie Brown is a possibility, too.
In other matters today, Morris and Sean Jones both said Jones would start at strong safety opposite Tanard Jackson this week. Sabby Piscitelli got the start in Miami over the weekend, as planned. Morris had intended all along to start Jones this week and said the move is not an indication that a decision has been made on a starter.
At left guard, Jeremy Zuttah will remain the starter this week, with Keydrick Vincent relieving him once the starting offensive line leaves the game. At that point, Zuttah will again slide over to center and play there with the second unit, something he also did against the Dolphins.
