McCoy leaves practice early with hip strain
First-round pick Gerald McCoy suffered a hip strain in practice during the individual period and left the field Thursday.
The injury is not considered serious, but McCoy did not return. Receiver Arrelious Benn also injured his leg and defensive back E.J. Biggers sprained his ankle, but the Bucs weren't too concerned about those incidents, either.
"We got a couple tweaks today,'' coach Raheem Morris said. "(McCoy) has some sort of a mid-body, extremity tweak, sprain or whatever you want to call it. But I saw him in the hall and he appears to be walking around chipper, smiling and the normal Gerald McCoy. He just didn't finish practice.
"Arrelious had some kind of lower leg extremity injury with some type of strain. But I saw him in the lunch room walking around, smiling and feeling pretty good about himself. They've got a couple days of rest here so we'll feel good about those guys and what they'll be able to do. We got a roll by Biggers of his ankle at the end of practice.
"But we've been very fortunate about injury. We've been very fortunate about competition. We've been very fortunate about participation around here. Hopefully, that will continue.''
