Mike Williams, leading all rookies, records first 100-yard game

Rookie receiver Mike Williams has had no shortage of highlights and big plays in this young season. What he had not done, however, is eclipse the 100-yard mark – until Sunday.

Williams had his first 100-yard game, hauling in four passes for 105 yards, among them a 47-yard touchdown in the second quarter.

Williams now leads all rookies with 470 yards and four receiving touchdowns.

His big play on Sunday was emblematic of what he is beginning to make a weekly routine. He took advantage of CB Greg Toler while in single coverage on the left sideline.

“We knew it was going to be man-to-man (coverage),” he said. “It was basically a double move. I gave him a double move and he jumped to the outside. I went outside first and then came back to the inside. He bit on the out route and I just like pushed his hand off and it was open.”

From there, all Williams had to do was haul in a perfectly thrown ball from Josh Freeman.

“I was sitting there thinking at first, ‘I have to go up and get it,’’’ Williams said. “But no, it was right there in my hands.”
