Mike Williams watches, learns from Bengals receivers
Bucs rookie receiver Mike Williams has watched Chad Ochocinco and Terrell Owens for years with admiration. On Sunday at Cincinnati, he'll get a first-hand look at the dynamic duo.
Owens, who notched 222 receiving yards on Sunday, recently surpassed 15,000 career yards. A few weeks ago, Ochocinco reached the 10,000-yard mark. Those are plateaus Williams can only dream of three games into his career.
But Williams knows that emulating some of the best can help him get there.
"They’re two great receivers I’ve always looked up," Williams said. "Those two on the same team, it’s crazy. It’s like cheating. They’re two great receivers.
"All the receivers in the league, I try to take something from everybody and try to make it a part of my game. But especially those two guys."
Of Owens' big game on Sunday, Williams said, "He shows what he can do with any team he plays with. With a guy like that, you can go outside and inside and that’s what you see with him. He’s playing the slot and outside receiver. You can’t stop a guy like that."
With any luck, Williams will one day be able to benefit from a receiver lined up across from him that commands the sort of attention Owens and Ochocinco do. That would do wonders for Williams' ability to get open.
"You always want the whole receiving corps to be great so you always have one-on-one matchups and mismatches," he said. "That’s great."
