Minor injuries slowing the Bucs on Day 6

The Bucs, now a full week into training camp, are dealing with a handful of apparently minor health issues.

During today’s practice at One Buc Place, first-round pick Mark Barron was among those not fully participating because of a toe injury, coach Greg Schiano said.

“Mark his toe got banged up yesterday, but I think he’ll be fine,” Schiano said.

Defensive tackle Amobi Okoye did not participate, Schiano said, because he’s resting his knee after offseason surgery.

“Amobi, he just needs a couple days after going on (the knee) four straight,” Schiano said.

The situation with defensive end Michael Bennett is less clear. Bennett, who left practice early on Wednesday, was on the sidelines but did not participate. Why is still unclear.

On Wednesday, it was suggested by Schiano that Bennett was suffering from heat-related symptoms, but he was vague on the topic today.

“I think Mike’s going to be okay,” Schiano said. “I’m not really sure what to call it. He just didn’t feel well and we’re just going to be safe there. We’ll get him back in a couple of days.”

After a follow up question, Schiano said, “It’s kind of a combination of stuff. . . I don’t know if we can categorize it.”

The Bucs declined to make Bennett available to speak with reporters.

Cornerback Ronde Barber was a limited participant in today's practice, but there does not appear to be anything wrong with the 37-year old safety. He and Schiano said his inactivity was an effort to rest him.

"Do you know how old I am," Barber cracked.
