Morris: LeGarrette Blount's fumbling "has been a concern"

Buccaneers coach Raheem Morris said Monday that fundemantals will be stressed even more this week in practice, and one key aspect will be ball security, as Tampa Bay turned the ball over seven times in Sunday's loss.

One particular culprit in that category is running back LeGarrette Blount, who put the ball on the ground twice. Blount acknowledged Sunday it was an issue with him, and Morris says it's something they've worked on with him since the bruising back entered the starting lineup last year.

"It's been a concern with LeGarrette for a while," Morris said. "We've talked about it with him, and constantly stressed it. It just so happens this year we haven't been fortunate enough to get some of those balls back as we were in the past.

"You're talking about a guy that runs the ball the way he does, and breaks as many tackles as he does, sometimes those guys get careless with the football, with their ability to use extra effort. You hate to takea way from a guy's effort, but at the same time you've go to be smart with the football. You've got to do better."

Other stuff from today's press conference:

*Morris continued to maintain he's not concerned with his job security or being on the "hot seat." "When you're coaching, you're always on the hot seat," he said. "If I was worried about being fired, I certainly would not be coaching. I would have took that physical education job in Long Island that I turned down 15 years ago."

*Morris said QB Josh Freeman came through Sunday's game fine, and was encouraged how he bounced back even after he landed on his injured right shoulder.

"He's a tough guy, he took a couple hits and landed on his shoulder a couple times," Morris said. "That helped me to see, 'I'm going to go out and throw the ball after that cause now I know it's not structural."

*A reason why Freeman got hit a few times is because the offensive line, specifically the left side did not play well. "There's no sugar coating that fact," Morris said. "Donald Penn didn't have as great a game as he usually does for us."

*Though WR Preston Parker had two fumbles, including one that resulted in a Jaguars touchdown, he will get another chance at punt returning, Morris said. "I"m not going to turn my back on him," Morris said.
