Newest member of the Bucs Ring of Honor to be announced Wednesday
The Bucs will announce their newest member of the team's Ring of Honor at a news conference Wednesday at 2 p.m.
Defensive end Lee Roy Selmon was the first inductee last season. It is not expected to be Doug Williams, who recently left the team's pro personnel department.
There are many other great candidates, to be sure, including former coach John McKay and running back Ricky Bell.
The consensus choice is linebacker Derrick Brooks, who has not 'officially' retired from pro football and likely will be the next Tampa Bay player to go into the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
Brooks left the organization on a sour note when he was released with four other players in 2009 shortly after general manager Mark Dominik and coach Raheem Morris took over. The Glazer family would be anxious to mend those fences and honor arguably the greatest player in team history.
For a team that is having trouble selling tickets, this also would be a crowd pleaser. There's always been a debate whether the ROH would be selected in chronological order or by merit. If it's the latter, No. 55 is the best choice.
Who do you think will be the next player/coach into the Bucs Ring of Honor?
