NFLPA boss Smith requests 10-years of financial records from league to accompany extension
DeMaurice Smith, the NFL Players Association executive director, says significant differences remain in labor talks with the league. As a result, the union has requested 10 years of audited financial records accompany any request for an extension of labor talks. Smith gave the NFL owners a 5 p.m. deadline. The collective bargaining agreement expires at midnight and the union plans to decertify if terms for an extension are not met. "We met with the owners until about 4 o'clock today. We discussed a proposal that they had presented,'' Smith said. "At this time, significant differences continue to remain. We informed the owners that significant differences remain, that if there was going to be a request for an extension, that we ask 10-years or audited financial records to accompany any extension. We told them please let us know by 5 p.m. today.''
