Piscitelli loses starting job but will still see playing time

So, it seems Sabby Piscitelli has been demoted after one season as the starting strong safety, unseated by free-agent pickup Sean Jones.

But that doesn't mean Piscitelli won't see any playing time.

Coach Raheem Morris has repeatedly said he intends to use a three-man rotation at safety that includes Piscitelli. Already this preseason, Morris has used a combination of Piscitelli and Jones in the secondary as both players are cross-trained to play free and strong safety.

Saying he hopes to keep his safeties fresh, Morris will occasionally give Tanard Jackson and Jones rest, at which times Piscitelli would enter the game.

The safety rotation is not a new concept for Morris. He also did this when he was the Bucs' defensive backs coach in 2008. Back then, Piscitelli would play in place of Jackson or Jermaine Phillips, the starting strong safety at the time.
