Preseason star Tiquan Underwood returns; Preston Parker released

The Bucs have swapped one receiver for another, re-signing Tiquan Underwood and releasing Preston Parker.

Parker is in his third season with the club, which he joined as an undrafted free agent in 2010. But his production seemed to slip in the preseason and through two games, Parker had no catches. He also lost his special-teams duties after consistently fumbling the ball on punt returns – a Cardinal sin under coach Greg Schiano.

Underwood, meanwhile, had a stellar preseason, leading the team in receiving with nine catches for 158 yards. He showed the potential to stretch the field, averaging 17.6 yards per reception. Underwood was one of the toughest cuts when the team trimmed the roster to 53, Schiano said.

This move continues a shakeup of the receiving unit. The Bucs on Tuesday re-signed slot receiver Jordan Shipley, who was thought to be adding depth while Sammie Stroughter deals with his foot injury. In retrospect, the move might also have been related to today’s shuffle at the position.
