Raheem Morris tests players' desire
The Bucs were scheduled to practice in shorts, shirts and helmets today. And then coach Raheem Morris got an idea.
"I kind of looked around and I said, 'Man, we’re getting soft. I’m going to send them in and put on their pads just so I could see who would complain.'"
And so, Morris gave the order and watched carefully.
"Everybody kind of turned around and ran inside in unison," he said. "I was kind of shocked. They came back out and went through practice and I brought them back up (in a huddle). I had to confess. I was waiting for somebody to complain and nobody really did. We had a couple little grumblings but there was no real complaining.
"It sounds like everybody’s starting to sip the Kool-Aid and everybody’s starting to buy into what we want to do. I told these guys right there. ‘You have one opportunity to do this thing. You have one opportunity to do it big.’ And they all feel like this is their opportunity."
For this young team, the next opportunity is Saturday night in Miami, where the Bucs will take on the Dolphins in their preseason opener.
