Rams open draft by selecting QB Sam Bradford No. 1 overall
The St. Louis Rams could not bear to pass on another franchise quarterback.
The Rams selected Oklahoma quarterback Sam Bradford with the No. 1 overall pick in the 75th annual draft.
The Rams, who passed on the Mark Sanchez and Matt Ryan the past two seasons, had only A.J. Feeley and Craig Null on the roster at quarterback.
This clears the way for the Lions and Bucs to take defensive tackles Ndamukong Suh and Gerald McCoy. The Bucs are guaranteed to have an opportunity to take one of those players.
Bradford played in only three games last season after injuring his shoulder and underwent surgery. But the Rams were convinced that the shoulder was repaired.
The Rams had not begun negotiating a contract with Bradford prior to the draft.
