Report: Bucs hire Ron Turner as quarterbacks coach
If Josh Freeman is going to rebound in 2012, his position coach is going to have a hand in his success.
Now, it appears we finally know who will take on that important role. The Bucs, according to Foxsports.com, have hired Ron Turner as their quarterbacks coach, filling the last major piece of their coaching staff.
Turner was on the Colts' staff during the past two seasons, serving as their quarterbacks coach last season. The brother of Chargers coach Norv Turner, Ron Turner coached the Bears’ quarterbacks while also serving as Chicago’s offensive coordinator from 1993-96 (Schiano also was on the staff for part of that time).
Turner is a veteran coach, serving at both the college and pro levels in wide-ranging capacities. He has been a collegiate head coach at San Jose State and Illinois, and has had two stints as the Bears' offensive coordinator.
Turner's name was mentioned in association with the Bucs' search for an offensive coordinator. He reportedly interviewed for the job, but former Giants assistant Mike Sullivan ultimately was selected.
