Ronde Barber: "This is probably as low as I've been in a while"
Bucs veteran corner Ronde Barber, who has played the second most games in team history, has certainly seen his share of highs and lows.
And while Barber found some positives in today's 26-3 loss - saying the defense played well for the most part - he admitted the obvious frustration.
"This is probably as low as I've been in a while," Barber said. "But you know what? You can only go up from here, right?"
How tough was it?
“It’s a tough day, man," Barber said. "When you feel good about some of the things you do and still feel this low afterward, it’s a little bit frustrating.”
Barber said you can't put the blame on any one particular person, including rookie QB Josh Freeman, who threw three interceptions. Barber said they could put him in better situations, and doesn't expect him to win every game."
"He's a young guy, and we're all living with his mistakes," Barber said. "He'll get better. He understands where he needs to get better, some of the throws that he doesn't need to make. But at the same time, we cant put it all on him. It's hard to anoint any one person as our savior. But he has a bright future ahead of him....
"We are building; we are trying to build something," Barber said. "I'm not accustomed to this. Maybe some of the other guys on this team have been, in some of their other programs. All we can ask from our guys is to finish this thing out and play hard....There have been a lot of games where teams didn't beat us, and we found ways to beat ourselves with turnovers, losing the field position battle. We've won those games in the past, we found a way to win them. This team has to find out about themselves if they can do that. You can blame it on a lot of different things, youth or new coaches, new quarterback. They are all excuses to me. We have to find a way to get better."
