Bucs third-round pick Myron Lewis was not on the field for the preseason opener on Saturday because of his hamstring injury, but he more than likely will suit up against Kansas City this week and make his Tampa Bay debut.

Lewis has missed some valuable time in training camp, during which he was severely restricted by the injury. That has allowed E.J. Biggers to get off to a fast start, taking the lead over Lewis and Elbert Mack in the battle to be the team's nickel back.

Lewis has been doing his best off the field to keep pace.

"It's always frustrating when you're standing back watching and getting a lot of mental reps, but that's a big part of the game, too," he said. "I've been out here getting a lot of mental reps and I'm in the film room just getting more. I'm bringing it out on the field and I've been able to take it from the classroom to the field."

Of his first NFL game, Lewis is beginning to feel the anticipation.

"I'm real anxious," he said. "This is going to be my first official NFL game, even though it's preseason."

Lewis looked like a guy who was serious about making an impact during today's practice at One Buc Place. Among his highlights was an interception of pass that had been tipped by Mack. Lewis corralled the ball and went the other way for what would have been a defensive touchdown.

I came off my break clean and actually caught it before it hit the ground," he said. "Then, it was off to the races."
