Rookie DE Lorig released to make room for Talib
The Bucs reactivated cornerback Aqib Talib from the suspended list today, meaning someone had to go from the active roster.
That someone is rookie defensive end Erik Lorig, a seventh-round pick from Stanford who was inactive against the Browns on Sunday. Lorig joined another inactive defensive end, Michael Bennett, on the sideline, indicating there is something of a surplus at the position.
Look for Lorig to possibly be signed to the practice squad as it seems unlikely he will be signed to another club's active roster. The Bucs liked his development during the offseason and presumably would like to keep him around.
Also today, the Bucs released punter Brent Bowden from their practice squad. Bowden, a sixth-round pick this year, was replaced by guard Brandon Carter, an undrafted free agent who was just released from the Saints' practice squad. He was a first-team All-Big 12 selection last season at Texas Tech.
The Bucs had suggested that Bowden would stick around awhile and be given a chance to work his way back onto the active roster, but this move suggests that's not happening.
