Sean Payton comes clean: Saints reported Bucs for injury report

Bucs coach Raheem Morris said it was his belief the Saints reported the Bucs to NFL officials for their decision not to list quarterback Josh Freeman on the injury report despite his sprained thumb.

And, it turns out, he was right.

Saints coach Sean Payton admitted as much to New Orleans reporters today.

"Listen, I think when your quarterback's on NFL Network with a splint on his thumb, normally he's on the injury report," Payton said, according to the New Orleans Times-Picayune. "At least take the splint off before you go on NFL Network, right?"

The story will, perhaps, be a bit of a subplot to Sunday's game. In the end, the key issue is that, from all indications, Freeman is fine. Even Payton seems to know that.

"It was probably a little gamesmanship," Payton said. "But you gotta list those guys, the same way we do."
