Tanard Jackson rejoins Bucs, has impressive practice

The Bucs did everything but confirm that reinstated safety Tanard Jackson will make his return to the field on Sunday against the Saints.

Joining the Bucs for his first practice since his yearlong drug-related ended on Tuesday, Jackson impressed coaches who were eager to see whether he was ready to contribute to the team. Jackson re-joined practice with no limitations, looking fast and quick -- just like he used to.

"You have to get through the week (first)," coach Raheem Morris said. "But we know how good a player Tanard is. There’s no secret about that. He’s done a great job getting his body ready to practice and play. It’ll be a decision that’s up to myself and I’ll lean on my guys like (general manager) Mark Dominik to make that decision at the end of the week.

"But he’s certainly out there practicing and he’s certainly ready to go from a mental standpoint. We just have to go see if we’re going to put him out there in the fire. . . We’re fired up to have him back."

Defensive backs coach Jimmy Lake expressed no hesitation with playing Jackson immediately.

"He looked great," Lake said. "He looked like he's been working out. He's in great shape. He's actually got a little more muscle on than he had the last time I saw him. He looks ready to go.''

Lake met with Jackson Tuesday night and this morning, catching him up on points he's missed during the past year. Lake indicated that Jackson's recall was very good.

"He actually started spitting out some of the coaching points," Lake said. "He was finishing my sentences, which is a good sign. . . We'll see how the week goes and how it progresses, how he looks on tape in practice and then we'll make that decision at game time."
