WR Preston Parker sees Clifton Smith as example
Though WR Preston Parker may have the odds against him making the team as an undrafted free agent, the former Florida State standout doesn't have to look far to see that it can happen; KR Clifton Smith not only made the team but became a Pro Bowler.
“He can be the next guy to come on and make the 53,” Smith said. “You never know – it’s possible.”
Smith said being in the same situation can help him give Parker advice.
“I know how hard it is when you first come in, you want to impress so many people, want to give it your all,” Smith said. “And you want to go out there and don’t mess up. You’ve just got to tell him to just go out there and play. Your work ethic is what got you here, you’re athletic ability is what got you here. Just play the game.”
Parker played last year at Division II North Alabama. He had 62 catches for 791 yards and three touchdowns as a sophomore at FSU in 2007 but was dismissed by Florida State early last year after being arrested and charged with driving under the influence. It was his third arrest since 2006.
"I've been to my lows, been to my highs," Parker said. "But I'm here to go back to my highs and make the team."
