Dominik: Report on Freeman likely to request trade is 'rumors'
Bucs general manager Mark Dominik dismissed a report that quarterback Josh Freeman is likely to request a trade before next month's deadline as 'rumors.'
The story by Jason LaCanfora of CBS Sports said the relationship between Freeman and coach Greg Schiano has deteriorated to the point where the quarterback is likely to request a trade. It also suggested that Freeman is a 'pawn' in a power struggle between Schiano and Dominik over personnel decisions.
"I think at end of the day, what it is, is a bunch of rumors,'' Dominik said prior to the Bucs' home opener against the Saints. "Coach (Schiano) and I have talked about it a lot. When you lose games, a lot of things are coming into your building. It’s how you manage those things that’s important...for us it is just that, it’s rumors.''
The Bucs have lost six of their past seven games dating back to last season after a 6-4 start bny Schiano in 2012, his first season with Tampa Bay.
"We always talk about that,'' Dominik said. "When you lose a game, who gets the most criticism? It's the head coach and quarterback.
At the end of the day, what's great about this week is it's Week 2 in NFL and our first home game and first divisional game.''
