Freeman not picked among Bucs captains
Bucs players have picked their captains for this upcoming season, and there's one noticeable omission.
Quarterback Josh Freeman is not one of the team's captains for the first time in four years. Wide receiver Vincent Jackson and right guard Davin Joseph are the offensive captains. Pro Bowl defensive tackle Gerald McCoy and safety Dashon Goldson, in his first year with the Bucs, are the defensive captains. LB Adam Hayward is the lone special teams captain.
Joseph is no surprise as he is one of the team's biggest leaders. Jackson is entering his second year with the Bucs, and second as captain. He is coming off a Pro Bowl season where he set career highs and he's been mentoring the young receivers. Jackson is also signed to a long-term contract.
Freeman had been a captain in each of the past three seasons when he's been the primary starting quarterback.
